Prof. Fernandez et al. report on a five year long study of characterization and identification of anti-malarials in Africa using DESI and DART mass spectrometry. DESI is utilized in a 'reactive' mode to detect intact artemenisins, whereas in conventional ESI or DART the compounds fragment that results in less confident identification.
